San Francisco prepares to welcome Don Bosco's Relic

The following comes from the Salesian News Agency:

On Saturday 11 September Don Bosco’s casket will arrive in the United States, at San Francisco, in the West United States Province (SUO). The Salesians and members of the local Salesian Family are enthusiastically preparing for the event.

After having crossed the great expanse of Mexico, first the southern Province (MEM) and then the northern (MEG), the casket containing Don Bosco’s relics is now about to continue its travels through the Interamerica Salesian Region.

After being in San Francisco on 11 September, the following days it will visit Richmond, Berkeley, Watsonville, Los Angeles, Rosemead and finally Bellflower, where it will remain until Sunday 19 September.

A feature of its pilgrimage in the “Saint Andrew” Province of SUO will be the close contact between the faithful and the relics of the saint in a friendly familiar atmosphere. Here in this Province too the programme has been arranged to make the best use of the time available and to allow the greatest number of people possible to draw close to the saint of youth. There are no plans for the casket to visit government buildings or cathedrals and the 13 locations for the veneration of the relics have been chosen as being in easy reach of large numbers of the faithful in densely populated areas.

The Salesian communities, and the young people and families who attend their centres are now ready for the arrival of the saint and several days ago began celebrations and novenas in preparation for this special event.

At the end of its pilgrimage through the SUO Province, the casket will be handed on to the Salesians in the East United States–Canada Province (SUE) until 10 October. This will be the last Province in the Interamerica Region to be visited. On 1 November Don Bosco’s relics will arrive in the East Asia - Oceania Region starting their travels in Korea.
