Fr. Joseph Quadrio Becomes newest Salesian “Venerable”

The following comes from the Salesian News Agency:

During an audience with the prefect of the Congregation of the Causes of Saints on the morning of December 19, our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI instructed the Congregation to prepare and promulgate the decree of the heroicity of the life and virtues of the Servant of God Fr. Joseph Quadrio, SDB, who was born at Vervio on November 28, 1921, and died at Turin on October 23, 1963.

Hencefore Fr. Quadrio bears the title Venerable. He is the tenth on the official list of Salesian Venerables, along with Mama Margaret and Sr. Maria Troncatti, among others.

Also under study concerning Fr. Quadrio is a healing attributed to his intercession, which could come to be considered a miracle and would clear the way for his beatification. That happened at the Salesian mission of Zumbagua in Ecuador. The director of the mission, Fr. Pio Baschirotto, is vicepostulator of Fr. Quadrio’s cause, charged with carrying out the preliminary investigations.

Professor and dean of the Faculty of Theology at the Salesian Pontifical Atheneum of Turin, Fr. Quadrio left a deep impression upon his numerous students, who are proud of having had him as their teacher. His union with God carried him to the heights of mysticism. It has been said that when he ascended to his professorial chair his teaching was so keen and profound that it seemed to make theology catch fire.

The Fathers of the Congregation of the Causes of Saints rated his "Positio" so favorably that they see in Fr. Quadrio an excellent model to put forward in this Year of the Priest.

During the same audience, the Holy Father also ordered the preparation of similar decrees on the heroic virtues of John Paul II and Pius XII, who likewise become Venerable.
