Benedict XVI: “The Church should fear only sin”

About 150,000 people gathered at St. Peter’s Square Sunday, in a show of solidarity for Pope Benedict XVI and his efforts to strengthen the sanctity of priests.

The pope told the crowd that Christians should fear sin, not the world.

Benedict XVI“The true enemy to fear and fight against is sin, the spiritual evil that unfortunately sometimes infects even members of the Church.”

The pope recalled his recent trip to Portugal and the great enthusiasm by which he was received in Lisbon, Fatima and Porto.

Benedict XVI
“It’s great to see this multitude of people in St. Peter’s Square, as it was to see so many people in Fatima, praying at the Shrine for the conversion of hearts.”

Benedict XVI also greeted immigrants who were celebrating the Feast of Nations at St. John the Lateran Square.
