A visit to the Abbey of Regina Laudis

On Monday I was able to visit the Abbey of Regina Laudis for evening vespers. It was a really beautiful experience. The Sisters sing all of their prayers in Latin and do a beautiful job! Their new Chapel is simple and really beautiful. You could smell the cedar as you walked in the door!

I think I counted 10 young sisters in formation. They must be doing something right!

The Abbey is the home of Mother Dolores Hart. Dolores Hart made her debut in Hollywood alongside Elvis Presley in Loving You. Since 1963, she's inhabited a very different world. She caused a sensation when she became a cloistered nun at the Benedictine Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Conn. Mother Dolores became prioress there in May 2001. She is still a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

To read a recent interview with Mother Hart please check out the vocation.com website.

Actually, most of those sisters in white veils are what they call at Regina Laudis "Missae Sisters". They are like externs. You will notice that they are wearing a cowl as they are in Solemn Vows. It is a beautiful place.
