Benedict XVI: Natural law is an essential value

The necessary conditions for understanding the absolute value of natural law must be created in the culture and through politics and civil society.

This was reiterated by Benedict XVI, in his speech to the International Theological Commission.

The end of the Commission's five year mandate has given the Holy Father the opportunity to review the themes covered in this period.

In particular on the role of theology, the Pope noted that one must give an answer to the human need for transcendence and guidance.

But theology must ask the question concerning the truth of faith, and not simply question its practical and social effectiveness.
The fundamental virtue of the theologian is to seek obedience to the faith, which makes him a collaborator with the truth.
